THE ONEONTA SPORTSMEN’S CLUB
ONEONTA’S HIDDEN TREASURE

Since its incorporation in 1939, Oneonta and the surrounding area have enjoyed a sportsmen's paradise. The Oneonta Sportsmen’s Club Inc. (OSC) was established to provide the hunter, shooter, fisherman, and outdoor enthusiast with a place to enjoy nature, learn or improve their shooting skills, or just spend time with others enjoying a common activity. OSC is an NRA affiliate, and an active member of the Otsego County Sportsmen’s Federation. OSC recognizes the future of shooting sports and outdoor conservation in general lies with the younger generation and is committed to preserving the future of our sport by sponsoring youths attending DEC Conservation Camp. OSC is also involved with local Boy Scout troops providing a Cub Scout Fishing Day and a Boy Scout Shooting Day, where equipment, ammunition, targets, instruction, and lunch are provided. OSC has a newly formed junior trap-shooting league. Our facility provides ample room for firearms training for the New York Army National Guard. Since its inception, OSC has been an annual sponsor of Buckmasters.

The Oneonta Sportsmen’s Club has something for everyone. For the shotgun shooter, our club has 2 regulation Trap fields, 3 regulation Skeet fields, and 1 Five Stand. All fields are equipped with push button automatic electric traps. For more of a challenge, OSC maintains a 20-station Sporting Clays course (generally shooting 50 birds per round). With our field layouts, all shotgun games may be shot at the same time without having to shut down one field to use another. Rifle and pistol shooters at OSC enjoy a 10 station; fixed bench, covered 100-yard rifle range, with 2 of the rifle range stations extending to 200 yards. For shooters wishing to shoot in inclement weather, the second floor of our facility houses an 10 station, 50 foot heated, pistol and smallbore rifle range. Members of OSC have established 2 competitive shooting teams. During the fall and winter months OSC has a competitive traveling pistol team where participating clubs take turns hosting the weekly .22 rimfire competition. For the competitive smallbore rifle shooter, OSC has a “Sporter Rifle” league open to men, women, and youth where team members shoot standard .22 caliber rifles in weekly “Postal” matches. For the archer a covered outdoor target area houses a 3d deer and bag target for practice shots up to 50 yards.

The Oneonta Sportsmen’s Club is open to the general public for shotgun shooting Wednesday afternoon, and Sunday. Memberships are required to use the remaining OSC facilities. Memberships at OSC run from June 1, through May 31. Annual individual memberships and annual family memberships may be purchased at the clubhouse.

If you’re interested in learning to shoot, want to improve your shooting or just want to converse with fellow outdoorsmen, then the Oneonta Sportsmen’s Club is for you. You may contact the Oneonta Sportsmen’s Club at 433-0515. Feel free to pay us a visit.
